About the Funguys collection

Say hello to the Funguys! Little handmade ceramic mushrooms and toadstools, each one handbuilt with a face and a mood of their own. They're happiest tucked into a houseplant pot, or gathered on a shelf with their friends.

The Funguys are my little mushroom crew, and they've been a sell out before, so if one catches your eye, don't dawdle! Every one is a one-off with a name of their own.

Every funguy has a name and a part to play. One is in charge of the music, one is the joker of the crew, always up to some kind of mischief, and one is always the best dressed in the crowd, in their fanciest pointy hat. Another is the life and soul of any mushroom gathering, and another always looks a bit surprised to see you.

They're handbuilt from lava flecked clay and decorated with oxides and glaze, and like all my makes they go through the kiln twice before they're done. Some are proper little toadstools with red edged caps, and some have a big curly cap to peep out from under.

Then there are my fancy lady mushrooms, Prudence and Daphne, arms folded as ever. They came out of my very first raku firing at Claire's House Pottery in shimmering metallics, looking magnificent. And if your Funguys need a neighbour, have a peek at the fairy houses.

How big are the Funguys?

They're little! Most are between about 3.5 and 10.5 cm tall, and Prudence and Daphne are a bit taller at around 14 cm. Every Funguy has its measurements on its own page.

Can I put a Funguy in a plant pot?

Yes! The lava fleck Funguys don't mind a splash when you water the plant, and they're happy out in the garden too. There's always a slight risk of the glaze cracking if it freezes, but they should be fine. Prudence and Daphne are the exception. Raku stays a little porous, so keep them indoors and dry, on a shelf.

Are they all different?

Yes! Every Funguy is handbuilt one at a time, so no two ever come out quite the same. I couldn't make the same one twice if I tried.

Will there be more?

Yes, new Funguys turn up in my drops, and Instagram at @henroo_pottery is the best place to see them taking shape.
